Akustik-Konzert mit The Jug Stompers

in Tom's music cellar

When blues was still young and wild, in the 1920s and 30s of the last century, a style of this music experienced its heyday in Memphis, Tennessee, and Louisville: Jug Band music. With guitar, banjo, harmonica, and homemade instruments, black musicians played at street corners, in pubs and barns, and on riverboats a wild mix of country blues, ragtime, and early jazz that invited dancing and participation. The name Jug Band comes from a ceramic jug (English: Jug), which is key to the sound; by overblowing, bass tones reminiscent of tuba and trombone can be produced.

THE JUG STOMPERS are an ensemble dedicated to reviving this captivating musical style. In addition to Jug Band music, this early black pop music, classic country blues titles are also part of the band’s repertoire. The joy of playing, wit, and spontaneity characterize the authentic music of the Jug Stompers and make each of their concerts an experience. Furthermore, the audience receives cultural and historical information about the songs performed and this difficult time for the African American population.
