Martin Gerschwitz, keyboardist and singer of the legendary psychedelic rock band "Iron Butterfly", is once again performing in Germany. Martin Gerschwitz – born and raised in Solingen – began playing the piano at five years old. After twelve years dedicated exclusively to classical music, he formed his first band in 1969. In 1972 he achieved his first major success
by winning the talent competition "Show '72" in Solingen and was subsequently a jury member there for several years. From 1974-1977, he accompanied Howard Carpendale on keyboards before transitioning to the professional circuit in 1978.
With the German-English-American
rock band "Break Point", he produced his first album "First Serving" in 1981, which was re-released as a CD in the USA in 2006.
In 1985, Martin moved to the USA to pursue his musical dreams. In the following years, he collaborated with many renowned and well-known musicians. From 1987-1989, he toured with Lita Ford (who was twice represented in the Top Ten of the US charts), in 1989/90 he played with Meat Loaf, and from 1991/92 he was a permanent member of "The Dough Boys", who were later called "PFR". From 1993 to early
1998, he was part of the "Walter Trout Band" until he joined "Eric Burdon & The Animals" in March 1998. After seven successful years with the "Animals"
he switched in November 2005 to be the keyboardist/lead vocalist of the world-famous flower power rock band "Iron Butterfly"
(hit: "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida"), with whom he still plays…..
In 1996, Martin launched his solo career parallel to his band activities. By now, he can look back on numerous CDs, mainly featuring instrumental pieces. For several years, Martin successfully toured regularly with his own formation "Martin Gerschwitz & Friends" throughout Germany and Europe. On one of these tours, in November 2004, a high-class live DVD was recorded in Frankfurt/Main. In 2008, his first CD "Bridge to Eternity" was released, featuring only vocal pieces.
However, Martin Gerschwitz is one of those artists who do not rest on their laurels, but constantly seek new forms of expression. Thus, he presented himself with the "Acoustic Surprise Tour" in an almost "unplugged" way – and since
2009, Martin Gerschwitz has also been performing solo – but with a full program: keyboards, vocals & violin.
Of course, his solo performances also include the gems of the Gerschwitz program: whether they are rocked" classics by Johann Sebastian Bach or "Gerschwitz plays Gershwin," not to forget "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" .... Gerschwitz consistently achieves great success with this program among his fans in California, Oregon, Washington, and now also in other states, and looks forward to delighting his supporters in his homeland once again.
