Kröver Rockfall

On the ridge of the opposite Mosel slope from Kröv, it was determined in December 1991 that a rock mass of a total of 90,000 m³
was in danger of collapsing. This could have triggered an enormous tidal wave that would have flooded parts of the town of Kröv.
The rock was monitored for months, and as the cracks and fissures expanded, the rock masses were controlled and brought down by an explosion on May 23, 1992.
The explosion was a topic in the media for many days at that time. Even television reported on it. There were no damages or injuries.
The public's interest in this event was enormous, and many spectators flocked to the Mosel town during those days.
The blasted rock is still visible but may not be entered.
