Built on a former Roman settlement
The Staffelter Hof is a former vineyard of the Abbey of Stavelot/Stablo (in present-day Belgium). The abbey received the estate in the year 862 as a gift from King Lothar II to address the then-lack of wine. The estate was built on a former Roman settlement and over the years the vineyard expanded into a large wine estate with agriculture. After the expropriation of all abbeys by the French, the entire property came into the private ownership of the former steward of Kröv, whose descendants still live on the estate today and manage it as a vineyard and guesthouse.
