A hike around the Marienburg and the lookout tower on the Prinzenkopf.
The trail leads from Reil toward Marienburg, passing the Drieschhütte, the war cemetery, and the Prinzenkopf lookout tower, continuing to the saddle near Barl. Along this section, you’ll enjoy beautiful views over Reil, Pünderich, and Briedel.
The return route runs mostly through forest, via Marienburg, Haus Waldfrieden, the Dünwaldhütte, Leofelsen, and the Reiler Hals, offering scenic views of Merl, Bullay, Alf, and Arras Castle.
From the starting point, follow the R6 trail signs and cross the railway tracks. Continue along the paved road. After a short ascent, turn right onto an unpaved path. This leads to another asphalt road, where you turn left and then take the first left again.
This road leads approx. 2 km to the Drieschhütte, a scenic viewpoint that is open during the hiking season. After another 600 metres, you reach the Pünderich war cemetery. From there, a forest path leads to the Prinzenkopf lookout tower.
Continue toward Marienburg. After approx. 200 metres, the road forks – take the right-hand path. After 1 km, turn left at the saddle toward Barl, then another 100 metres up to Marienburg.
About 200 metres past Marienburg, turn left onto a forest trail leading to Haus Waldfrieden. Continue below Haus Waldfrieden to a crossroads near the car park above Alf. Go straight ahead to reach the Dünwaldhütte.
From there, follow the signs to the Leofelsen viewpoint. Then continue through the forest and over the Reiler Hals ridge back to Reil.
Caution: When crossing the railway tracks in Reil, please be extra careful – there are no barriers at the level crossing.
Don’t forget your camera! The entire route offers stunning views over the Moselle Valley. Refreshments available at the Drieschhütte.
