On the Mosel riverbank by the Pünderich ferry, the stairs lead to Marienburg and back to Reil over the Mosel heights
This route passes the Pünderich hillside viaduct, one of the longest hillside viaducts in Europe, to the Pünderich ferry. From the Mosel bank, stairs (440 steps) lead up to Marienburg. Over the Mosel heights, you reach the viewing tower on Prinzenkopf and the Pünderich war cemetery. The return journey goes between forest and vineyards via Drieschhütte and the Reiler Hals back to Reil.
The Mosel can often be seen multiple times. Along the entire route, there are sights perfect for postcard photos. The Drieschhütte is usually open on weekends during the hiking season.
Definitely don't forget the camera!
Starting from Bibadeplatz in Reil, the path leads along the paved cycle path by the Mosel to the Pünderich ferry. Then it gets strenuous. 440 steps lead steeply up to Marienburg (unfortunately no catering!). If that is too strenuous, simply continue on the cycle path towards Briedel and turn left at the first opportunity to take the moderate ascent. Once on the ridge, the path leads left to Marienburg (the last stretch there is also very steep but without stairs). Follow the ridge path to the Prinzenkopf viewing tower, from where a path leads through the forest to the war cemetery. Via a forest path, you reach Drieschhütte (rest opportunity) and then between forest and vineyards back to Reil via the Reiler Hals.
There are plenty of parking spaces under the Reil bridge.
Please note: The first part of the route along the Mosel to the Pünderich ferry is a heavily used cycle path.
Marienburg and Prinzenkopfturm offer unique views of the Mosel valley, the Mosel bend at Zeller Hamm, and the Pünderich hillside viaduct.
