This Moselle circular route really offers everything: steep climbs through vineyard locations, dense forests, historic castles, and finally on the water with the passenger ferry!
The hike runs along the entire Moselsteig trail and is connected by Moselsteig side trails to form an attractive circular hike. The path offers very varied sections through forests, vineyards, the town of Traben-Trarbach, and charming Moselle villages. Starting from the Mont Royal holiday park, you follow the Moselsteig signage to Enkirch and return to the starting point via the Moselsteig side trail marking.
On this hike, you have to overcome quite a few altitude meters, but the steep climbs are rewarded with fantastic views and great vineyard locations. This applies right after the first ascent from the starting point to the Mont Royal holiday park. From there, a detour to the former Vauban Fortress is worthwhile, which is only preserved in basic outlines but gives the hiker a good impression of that time. From there it continues on to Traben-Trarbach. The town is an architectural jewel of the Art Nouveau - many buildings are still preserved from that time. Besides a city tour, you will also find many places to stop for a break here. If you still have some breath left and can see the flag on the Grevenburg from the valley, you can also tackle the next altitude meters before stopping at the Grevenburg. Here you have a wonderful view of the entire Moselle valley. From there it continues towards Starkenburg on the traces of Countess Loretta. From Starkenburg the path leads on to Enkirch—again and again offering wonderful views. In Enkirch, you walk past many old half-timbered houses, and inns and especially in autumn the seasonal wine taverns invite you to linger. Those who still have time and stamina can explore Enkirch on the Gässchenrundweg. The small passenger ferry takes you to Kövenig. From there you still have to climb the last altitude meters before arriving back at the Mont Royal holiday park.
The Moselle is crossed by the ferry in Enkirch on the route. The passenger ferry Enkirch - Kövenig operates from Easter to October, Tuesday - Sunday from 9:30 am - 12:00 pm and 1:30 pm - 5:30 pm.
