A train-accompanying hiking trail between vineyards and Moselweinbahn. Sometimes you hike directly next to the tracks, sometimes you can observe the train from great viewpoints.

The hiking trail starts directly at Traben-Trarbach station and ends at Bullay station. It leads you almost continuously with a view of the Moselweinbahn or the Moselle past vineyards, idyllic wine villages, viaducts, and tunnels. On information boards at selected viewpoints, you find the timetable times at which the Moselweinbahn passes - ideal for memorable snapshots. Incidentally, the route is also signposted in the opposite direction!

General information

Directions

You start at Traben-Trarbach station and soon reach the Moselle. You now follow the riverside downstream. Before the harbor, you reach the first viewpoint Am Corveyer Hof. Along the tracks, you now hike to the station in Kövenig.

On the way towards Kövenig, you shortly pass the small harbor and the Enkirch weir. This is shortly before arriving in Kövenig, the subject of the second photo point Staustufe Enkirch. Now the path leads you into the vineyards to the Mont Royal viewpoint with a broad view over the Moselle, wine, and Moselweinbahn. Then you walk on the Moselle heights between the vineyards towards Reil. Along the way you encounter the viewpoints 50. Breitengrad, the Julius-Treis-Hütte, as well as the Kleine Viadukt at the entrance to Reil. You now walk for a longer time between the Moselle and the tracks until you reach the photo point Viaduktblick and are rewarded with an impressive view of the long viaduct. A short detour of 20 meters through an underpass beneath the tracks is necessary for this. You continue to hike along the Moselweinbahn and cross under the viaduct shortly before the Prinzenkopftunnel. There is the photo point Prinzenkopftunnel. Then you go past the hiking rest area Drei Eichen to probably the most spectacular photo point on the Prinzenkopfturm, the panoramic view. Here you have the Moselweinbahn in view in both directions and can overlook almost the entire route, the Moselle loop, and the Marienburg. Afterwards, the path leads through the forest and over the Marienburg to the last photo point at the double-deck bridge, the bridge view. Now you cross the Moselle on the lower level of the bridge and shortly thereafter reach the destination, Bullay station.

The hike can also be very well divided into three stages, whereby the return journey can each time be done by train.

1st stage Traben-Trarbach - Kövenig

2nd stage Kövenig - Reil

3rd stage Reil - Bullay
