A hike that mostly leads through the forest and offers magnificent panoramic views of Wolf, Traben-Trarbach, Mont Royal, and Starkenburg.

This hike leads uphill from the Mosel riverbank Trarbach through the vineyard 'Taubenhaus' into the forest. Along the path, you can repeatedly admire great views of Traben and the vineyards 'Würzgarten' and 'Königsberg', Mont Royal, and the district Rissbach. After reaching the elevated residential area Koppelberg, the path leads us through the high forest where we can enjoy the peace and fresh air. Soon we reach an area with beautiful wildflower meadows. Here, in early summer, we can admire daisies, lupines, and other meadow flowers. Now we have reached the highest point of the hike at 365 meters above sea level and see the houses of Starkenburg on the opposite hill. Now the path goes downhill again through the vineyard 'Taubenhaus' towards the town. At the end of the hike, you can once again enjoy the view of Trarbach with its impressive buildings, the gymnasium with the former alumni house, the Grevenburg ruins, and the Protestant church with the Old Latin School.

General information

Directions

From the parking lot at Trarbach Mosel riverbank, go straight ahead through Mosel and Weiherstraße to Weihertorplatz.

Here turn right onto Wildbadstraße and follow it for about 200 meters, then immediately behind the fountain turn right into Bernkasteler Weg. After about 80 meters, turn right again into Weinbergsweg, continue straight to the Taubenhaus vineyard - from here you can also see the marking white M = Moselhöhenweg (Mosel Heights Trail).

At the equipment shed of the Taubenhaus participant community, the path turns left, then at the next intersection turn right onto the path between vineyards and forest past the Ranzenberger hut (shelter) with constant views of the Mosel, town, and Grevenburg ruins. Then we reach the forest path and follow the trail marker left uphill into the forest. Soon we reach a bench with a wonderful panoramic view of the district Rißbach, Mont Royal, the Mosel bend, and the district Wolf. We continue on this ascending path to the historic water reservoir/fountain, then continue uphill to the left, passing on the asphalt road above Koppelberg. From here do not follow the white M = Moselhöhenweg anymore, but the asphalted path ascending to the left. Follow the third path turning left (by the bench) into the high forest and walk straight ahead for 2 km to the television transmitter. Along this route there are repeatedly great views of the Mosel, the town, the Grevenburg ruins, and Starkenburg. Then after about 1.5 km walk straight ahead, then sharply turn left and cross the Compener Bächelchen again into the Taubenhaus vineyard. Here we cross the outbound route and follow the footpath below Villa Sonora into Wolfer Weg. Here we reach the back of the Buddha Museum (access via the Mosel side of the building). Now turn right over Kautenbach and through the Mosel gardens to the parking lot at the Mosel riverbank.
