The trekking route can be walked in daily stages, with three trekking sites available for overnight stays.
The entire tour should be planned for four days and three nights.
On this tour, you will experience all the landscapes our natural scenery has to offer. You hike through shady forest sections, charming valleys, vineyard sites, and hilly meadows. Mostly, the tour leads away from civilization; passing through villages can be used to replenish water and provisions.
Please note that this is a demanding trekking tour intended for overnight stays at the three trekking sites in nature. To prevent vandalism, the trekking sites are not marked on the route. The coordinates will be sent to you upon booking.
1st stage Traben station - "Weitsicht" platform
It is recommended to stock up on enough provisions and water near the station; here you will find two supermarkets. Then cross the bridge into Trarbach through the small old town. You can also refill water supplies at the drinking fountain in Trarbach on the square below the Protestant church. After that, it goes steeply up the vineyards, and you walk along the ridge to the Moseltherme through vineyards. From here it becomes shady, and you enter the mystical Kautenbach valley. The path leads over beautiful narrow forest trails past the spectacular Bischofsmütze. From there it is not far to the trekking platform "Weitsicht".
2nd stage "Weitsicht" platform - "In den Weinbergen" platform
From the "Weitsicht" platform, it continues steadily uphill through the Kautenbach valley to the heights of the Graacher Schanzen. You cross the new B50 and hike on the Moselsteig with wonderful views of the Mosel valley. Arriving at the rest stop "Maria Zill" offers a wonderful view of Bernkastel-Kues and the surrounding villages. Through a path, you cross over the Graacher Schanze back to the other side of the new B50. You walk through meadows and fields into another forest area. Then vineyard sites line your way, and you are almost at the destination of the "In den Weinbergen" platform.
3rd stage "Weitsicht" platform - trekking site "Under the fruit trees"
From the platform, you follow the hiking trail Seitensprung Kluckertspfad for a short distance and then cross the small wine village Traben-Trarbach/Wolf. There you cross the Mosel and then steeply climb the Wolfer Goldgrube vineyard site. At the top, a small detour to the Landal holiday park is possible to replenish provisions at the park shop. Past the mountain chapel, it goes up to the Kröver Berg, and the K62 is crossed. Then it goes over meadows and fields into the forest and downhill to the village of Bengel. From there it is not far to the idyllic natural camping site "Under the fruit trees".
4th stage trekking site "Under the fruit trees" - Reil station
From the trekking site "Under the fruit trees," you walk to Springiersbach monastery. From there, it goes over a wooded section to the B49. From there you have to climb more elevation meters, but at the top, you get a great view from Reiler Hals over the Mosel valley. The path winds down through the vineyards to Reil station. If you still have energy, you can walk into the center of Reil, where various places to eat are available.
If you do not have much time left, you can shorten the route and use the station in Bengel directly for the return journey.
No open fires are allowed on the trekking platforms "Weitsicht" and "Wolfspfad." At the trekking site "Under the fruit trees," please observe the notices on current forest fire danger.
Please strictly observe these regulations and consider alternatives for your meal preparation.
