It was only in 1973 that the prehistoric fortification that rises about the valley of the Kautenbach was recognised, and it offers the prospect of exciting archaeological discoveries. There are steep slopes on three sides. Only in the south-west was there easier access. A trapeze-shaped area was enclosed by a drystone wall made of the local slate, the course of which was adapted to the terrain and in places ran along clifftops. Today, no indications are to be seen that the wall was stabilised using the murus Gallicus technique that consisted of vertical posts in the outer face and horizontal beams set transversely into the wall.
In the south-west area, for a distance of some 50 m, there is an 8 m wide ditch in front of the wall that is set lower down the hillside due to the natural slope. The entrance was in the north-west corner, where access was easier. A double wall enclosed a gate passageway. The outer wall set on a bank on both sides and the gate set back in the angle of the passageway to provide better protection and control.
No traces of settlement have been found. In analogy to other Celtic fortifications, construction is dated to the 5th century BC.
