Old castle Kinheim

Kinheim Castle was the ancestral seat of the von Kinheim family of knights, whose coat of arms was the diagonal lattice with a left upper free quarter. The family, which was first mentioned in a document in 1293 with Johann von Kinheim, died out in the male line in the middle of the 15th century, while the castle was already divided among the heirs at the beginning of the 15th century.

The building complex, which consists of the upper castle on the left and the lower castle on the right, as well as the slender, four-storey gate tower in between, was built thick-walled from slate rubble stones. The ground floor of the original two-storey castle house, which was able to retain its castle character until the 19th century, once had only loopholes, while the upper floor had narrow slit windows. The interior of the upper castle was entered through a wide, round-arched door on the left behind the tower masonry; the entrance to the lower castle is still today through a door from the inner courtyard.
