You’ll quickly discover that the vineyard is home to much more than just grapevines on this extended walk. In addition to a rich variety of species, the trail also offers magnificent views.

Along the old Roman road and the new themed trail, you can discover a wide variety of plant and animal species typical of the steep vineyard slopes of the Trarbach Schlossberg. Together with the region’s cultural and historical landmarks, they bear witness to thousands of years of steep-slope viticulture, which has greatly contributed to the biological diversity of the Moselle region.

General information

Directions

In the Art Nouveau town of Traben-Trarbach, the trail begins at the Bridge Gate, heading down Brückenstraße. Just before the Indian restaurant, turn left into Brandweg – watch carefully, the turn is quite easy to miss! Narrow paths lead you into the Schloßberg vineyard site. A loop walk takes you past information panels, old vineyard walls, and a biodiversity tower, ending at the war memorial.

From there, the trail climbs up to Grevenburg Castle. The descent back into the valley follows a winding forest path that eventually brings you back to your starting point.

Equipment

The route can be easily walked in comfortable shoes. Especially in summer, it can get very hot in the vineyards – don’t forget to bring enough water.

Tip

When the flag is flying, the Grevenburg is open for visitors and refreshments.
