A circular hike through the Kondel Forest, where you can discover its rich and diverse flora and fauna.
Well-marked Circular Trail No. 4 through the Kondel Forest, where you can discover an incredibly diverse range of flora and fauna. Along the way, you’ll find plants ranging from lords-and-ladies to wild orchids, as well as a variety of tree species such as deciduous and coniferous trees, broom, ferns, and even gnarled old oaks.
The Kondel Forest is home to mouflon, red deer, small game, and wild boar, along with a wide variety of forest birds that can be identified by their calls and drumming sounds. Depending on the season, you’ll also encounter wild strawberries, blackberries, mushrooms, rose hips, and tree fruits.
The starting point is the public parking area near the monastery church in Springiersbach.
From here, follow the farm track, passing the Springiersbach hikers’ shelter, toward the Kondel Forest. At the bridge over the Springiersbach stream (on the left-hand side), turn onto a well-maintained forest path.
At the end of the path, turn right onto the paved forestry road and follow the signs for Route No. 4.
Along the way, you'll experience the diverse flora and fauna of the Kondel Forest, with views of Bengel and the Alf Valley. Birdsong and animal tracks will accompany you along the trail.
The route continues around the Hommerichskopf, offering views of Bengel, pastures, and orchards. Continue on to the Pest Cross, then keep right.
You’ll reach Jacob’s Cross, a perfect place to take a rest and enjoy a beautiful view of Springiersbach and its monastery church. At the next fork, keep left to reach the Springiersbach Farm. From here, you can already see the bell tower of the monastery church.
At the end of the trail, turn left again and return to Springiersbach and the starting point at the monastery parking area.
Please stay on the designated paths to avoid disturbing the flora and fauna of the Kondel Forest.
Sturdy footwear and snacks in a backpack are recommended.
Visit the monastery church with its baroque ceiling paintings and the choir stalls in the sanctuary. A stop at the monastery shop is also highly recommended.
