Hike through the "Römerhang" and the "Graacher Schanzen" with a magnificent view of the Mosel valley
Through the vineyard "Römerhang" it goes uphill to the Mosel Höhenweg. The path then leads through the extensive fortification "Mont National" from 1795, the "Graacher Schanzen" further to Bernkastel-Kues. The "Iron Wine Menu" along the way invites you to rest.
We start across the bridge to Kindel, continue straight ahead (hiking trail no. 8 and no. 13) to the Römerhang barbecue hut. At the next fork in the path about 100 m above the hut, turn right onto hiking trail no. 8 (signposted Bernkastel) (a slightly steeper ascent) to the Mosel Höhenweg (M). Then turn right and follow the "M" over the "Graacher Schanzen" (extensive fortification "Mont National", built in 1795, mostly overgrown with hedges). From here, a magnificent view of the Mosel valley with the Zeltingen dam stage awaits.
The "Iron Wine Menu" invites you to take a break. After that, continue downhill to Bernkastel.
Return to the starting point by boat or hourly by buses of the Moselbahn.
Sturdy footwear is recommended
Picnic at the "Iron Wine Menu" and then leisurely stroll through Bernkastel's old town.
