A short, well-marked circular hike from Springiersbach through the Kondel Forest, around the Kellerberg, with a view of the remains of a Roman villa.
A 6 km hike from Springiersbach Monastery through the Kondel Forest. The route is very well signposted (red arrow – red 1) and follows well-maintained forest paths that are accessible in all seasons.
The starting point is the public parking area near the monastery church in Springiersbach.
From there, follow the farm track past the Springiersbach hikers’ shelter into the Kondel Forest. Follow the signs for Route No. 1 (red). Along the way, you’ll encounter a wide variety of plants – from lords-and-ladies to wild orchids. The forest features deciduous and coniferous trees, broom shrubs, and ferns.
The Kondel Forest is home to mouflon, red deer, small game, and wild boar, as well as numerous forest birds whose calls and drumming sounds you may be able to identify.
Depending on the season, you’ll also find wild strawberries, blackberries, mushrooms, rose hips, and various tree fruits.
The trail leads through the area known as “Kellerberg”, where you will find the remains of a Roman villa. An information board at the site displays a sketch of the original building along with a detailed description. A stop here is highly recommended.
Just keep following the signs marked with the red 1, and you’ll easily return to your starting point at the monastery church parking area in Springiersbach.
Please stay on the designated paths to avoid disturbing the flora and fauna of the Kondel Forest.
Sturdy footwear and snacks or provisions in a backpack are recommended.
Visit the monastery church with its baroque ceiling frescoes and the choir stalls in the sanctuary. A visit to the monastery shop is also highly recommended.
