A circular hike through the Kondel Forest with the return route leading through the Schlangenschlucht (Snake Gorge).
Well-marked Circular Trail No. 6 through the Kondel Forest, where you can discover the region’s rich and diverse flora and fauna. Enjoy the fresh green leaves in spring, the pleasant coolness of the forest in summer, the colorful foliage and forest fruits in autumn, and the sparkling snowy landscape in winter.
The Kondel Forest is home to mouflon, red deer, small game, and wild boar, as well as a wide variety of forest birds that can be identified by their calls and drumming sounds.
Depending on the season, you may also come across wild strawberries, blackberries, mushrooms, rose hips, and other forest fruits.
The route leads past pastures, horse paddocks, and orchards. Let yourself be inspired by the sounds and scents of nature.
The starting point is the public parking area near the monastery church in Springiersbach.
From here, follow the farm track past the Springiersbach hikers’ shelter into the Kondel Forest. At the bridge over the Springiersbach stream (on your left), turn onto a well-developed forest path.
At the end of this path, turn right onto the paved forestry road and follow the signs for Route No. 6. Along the way, you’ll experience the diverse flora and fauna of the Kondel Forest. Birdsong and animal tracks will accompany you throughout the hike.
The return route leads around the Hommerichskopf, offering views of Bengel. Continue through the area known as "Auf Schotterbüsch", passing pastures and orchards. Along the way, you'll find a small fountain with a bench – perfect for a well-deserved rest. Enjoy the peaceful view of meadows, fields, and grazing animals.
At the end of the path, keep left toward Bengel. When the forest path ends, keep left again and begin the ascent through the Schlangenschlucht (Snake Gorge). At the next fork, turn right to reach the Springiersbach Farm, from where you can already spot the bell tower of the monastery church.
At the final junction, turn left again to return to Springiersbach and the starting point at the monastery parking area.
Please stay on the designated paths to avoid disturbing the flora and fauna of the Kondel Forest.
Sturdy footwear and snacks in a backpack are recommended.
Visit the monastery church with its baroque ceiling paintings and the choir stalls in the sanctuary. A stop at the monastery shop is also highly recommended.
