Holidays with dogs

Holidays for dogs and their owners

Holiday paradise for four-legged friends

in our Mosel region

Our region offers you and your four-legged friend the perfect setting for a relaxing holiday: vineyards, forest, the Mosel and plenty of space to move around. You can look forward to a relaxing holiday here in the magnificent Mosel winegrowing landscape. Whether it’s long walks along the banks of the Mosel, hikes through shady forests, cycling tours or cultural excursions – the Mosel region offers a great programme for dogs and their owners.

Dogs in the Mosel region

Please note the following hints and tips to ensure that holidaymakers with and without dogs can enjoy a relaxing holiday:

  • Dog owners must keep their dogs on a leash when walking on public roads within a town. Outside towns, they must be put on a leash immediately when other people approach or become visible.

  • Please be fair and always remove any dog mess. We even provide free dog waste bags. Dispenser boxes are usually found installed on public waste bins. If you fail to pick up their mess, you may be fined.

  • We recommend that all dogs wear a collar that clearly identifies the owner (name, address, telephone number).

Trips with dogs

  • Cycling with dogs: There is a well-developed network of cycle paths in our region. The Mosel Cycle Path is a particularly convenient way to explore the region with your dog. If long distances are a challenge for your four-legged friend, you can rent special dog trailers from one of the many bike rental companies.

  • Walking with dogs: Our region is ideal for long walks and hikes with your dog. We have put together a list of dog-friendly routes below. We have selected routes in shady forests with water points for hot summer days and routes on well-paved roads for rainy days.

  • Dogs on the train and bus: Dogs can travel at a reduced rate on all public buses and the Mosel Wine Train. Please keep them on a leash on the train and bus.

  • Dogs on the Mosel: Dogs can be taken free of charge on local tour boats. For their own safety as well as for the protection of other passengers, dogs must be kept on a leash with a muzzle.
